Day 11: San Francisco

We were up at half 7 to pack up camp and set off for San Francisco. We got there at lunch time so we went to a park to have some food. There was a great view from the park – The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Seeing Alcatraz in the distance reminded me so much of Azkaban, especially with all the paragliders which made it look like it was surrounded by dementors! The weather in San Francisco was a lot cooler compared to the rest of the trip, it was about 25°C with an added breeze, so it was like a really good summer day in the UK.

We dropped our things off at the hotel (Hotel Metropolis). It was at the end of Mason Street, which was a pretty rough looking area, but the hotel itself was nice enough. Although I wouldn’t like to have been outside at night on my own! It was certainly a downgrade from the hotel we had in Vegas.

Most of us went to the Golden Gate Bridge to take some obligatory photos. It was so windy! I think this was the first time in the whole trip where I actually had my hoodie zipped all the way to the top. And the bridge itself was also really noisy because of all the cars going passed. But it had a great view of San Francisco, and is just one of those typical touristy activities you have to do when you’re in San Francisco. We then headed to a Thai restaurant in China Town. I only had a green curry, and it was so spicy, but also really nice at the same time. Some of us went out to a couple of bars, including a karaoke bar. I usually hate karaoke, but there was quite a few of us as we met up with another trek group there who were doing the Westerner 3 tour, so it was actually pretty fun.
